Pink Tie Party

Pink Tie Party

On March 16, 2017, the Reagan Building welcomed hundreds of guests for the annual Pink Tie Party. This party occurs during the National Cherry Blossom Festival and raises money to support the not-for-profit organization. Guests were able to enjoy spring-inspired cuisine and cocktails and custom creations from local designer Mindy Lam. Contributing to the fundraising efforts was a silent auction which featured exclusive gifts such as a tour of the Tesla factory and unique sporting and dining experiences.

This is a one-day experience constructed to connect event professionals through keynote speakers and workshops. On July 20, 2016 the Reagan Building hosted the USAID White House Summit on Global Development. Development leaders, public and private sector partners, civil society diplomats and more gathered to examine the progress achieved by the Administration’s approach to development. Throughout the day there was a vast array of panel discussions reviewing Obama’s global development initiatives.

United Nation’s Foundation Girl Up Campaign

From July 11 through July 13, 2016 the Reagan Building welcomed the United Nation’s Foundation Girl Up Campaign as they hosted their 5th Annual Girl Up Leadership Summit. Throughout this conference, young women gained leadership skills, training in community-building and advocacy, learn from influential speakers and engage in skills-based workshops.

On June 9, 2016 hundreds of guests filled the Pavilion to celebrate the 188th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Philippines-U.S. diplomatic relations. Among the esteemed guests were U.S. government officials, foreign diplomats and the Filipino-American community.

On November 5, 2015 the Reagan Building hosted the White House Tribal Nations Conference with President Barack Obama. This conference welcomed leaders from the 567 federally recognized tribes and gave them the opportunity to interact directly with federal government officials and members of the White House Council on Native American Affairs.

On September 1, 2015 the Reagan Building hosted the annual Washington Redskins Welcome Home Luncheon. At the beginning of every season, the organization offers a unique opportunity for fans and corporate partners to have lunch and spend time with the entire organization. At the luncheon, money is raised to support youth programs across the region, and welcome the team back to D.C from training camp.

On February 26, 2015 the Reagan Building hosted Microsoft’s Federal Forum. Here, government IT leaders gathered with industry colleagues, technology experts and more to envision the next generation of government in today’s mobile heavy world. At this forum, the CEO made a major announcement about Cloud Maps and presented examples of how agencies at the federal, state and local level are using the cloud solutions to improve productivity and collaboration.

Citi Open Draw Ceremony & Kids Clinic

On July 25, 2014 the Reagan building hosted the Citi Open Tournament Draw Ceremony. The ceremony announces the men’s and women’s qualifying round matches. Following the ceremony, kids from the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation put on a tennis tournament on mini courts alongside Madison Keys and Jérémy Chardy.

On May 16-18, 2014 the Reagan Building hosted the Smithsonian’s “The Future is Here” festival. This festival features speakers ranging from science fiction authors to astrophysicists exploring science, technology, culture and the arts. This year, visitors witnessed drones and a jet-pack flying through the Atrium of the building. Watch the video here

Goldman Environmental Prize Gala

On April 30, 2014 the Reagan Building hosted the Goldman Environment Prize Gala. This prize is awarded annually to environmental activists, one from each of the world’s six geographic regions. Nominations are submitted confidentially by a vast range of environmental organizations and individuals which are then sifted through by an international jury to decide on the winners.

U.S. Missile Defense Agency Conference

On March 26-28, 2012 the Reagan building hosted the 10th Annual Missile Defense Conference by the American Institute of Aeronatutics and Astronauts. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency strives to provide a world-class secure environment for the missile defense community to meet. The conference provides guests service priorities, technical advances and access to the current state of the worldwide Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Ronald Reagan Building has proudly been hosting this conference since 2003.

Embassy Chef Challenge

On April 12, 2011 more than 400 guests filled the Atrium of the Reagan Building for the 3rd Annual Embassy Chef Challenge. Competing chefs are able to showcase their talents and unique cuisine in a friendly cooking competition assessed by a panel of celebrity judges. A silent auction follows with prizes such as cooking classes with embassy chefs, international trips, exclusive items and experiences from local businesses.

DC Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight

On November 11, 2010 guests filled the Atrium of the Reagan Building for D.C. Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight. Since 2005, The Ronald Reagan Building has hosted this annual event. Here, guests taste food and drink from some of DC’s best restaurants. Local chefs competed in an iron-chef-style battle judged by Anthony Bourdain, Tom Colicchio and Michael Mina. DC Central Kitchen is a nonprofit developer that breaks the cycle of hunger and poverty. 100% of the proceeds from Capital Food Fight combat hunger in Washington, D.C.

Changes to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform

On July 21, 2010, the Reagan Building welcomed President Barack Obama, Senator Chris Dodd, Representative Barney Frank, Representative Steny Hoyer, for the signing of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform. This event draws in over 650 attendees and recognizes the Washington areas most pronounced real estate deals closed in the previous year. Finalists for this award are chosen from a public pool of nominations by a panel of judges that includes a wide array of industry leaders.

“Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq” HBO Documentary Screening

On September 5, 2007 the Reagan Building hosted the screening of HBO-documentary “Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq.” This film, produced by ‘Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini features interviews conducted by the actor himself of ten severely wounded Marines and other soldiers. They discuss their “alive day” experience which they consider the day they narrowly escaped death in Iraq. “Sex in the City” Hosted by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton

On July 16, 2007 the Pavilion in the Ronald Reagan Building hosted Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and radio personal Jeannie Jones for their meeting on HIV/AIDS. During this forum they sought out to bring issues out of the shadows that stand in the way of stronger trusting relationships. A series of meetings and testing booths were held to raise awareness of the alarmingly high rates of HIV infection.

The Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the metropolitan region by encouraging giving and providing direction on critical issues in our community. On February 13, 2007, the Reagan Building hosted the HBO movie screening of Rory Kennedy’s film “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib”. The documentary examines the prisoner abuse scandal that involved U.S. soldiers and detainees at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison in 2003.

Congressional Coalition on Adoption Gala

On September 20, 2006, the Reagan Building hosted the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Gala. Recipients of this award are nominated by U.S. Senators and House members to honor those who are “unsung heroes” in adoption. They are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the welfare of children in the foster-care system in this country and in orphanages abroad.

Celebrate Mickey Mouse: 75 InspEARations

From March 19 – April 30, 2005, the Reagan Building hosted Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations on the Woodrow Wilson Plaza. 75 Mickey Mouse statues were on display till April 30 to celebrate Mickey’s 75th birthday. These statues were created by Disney legends, artists, actors, athletes and performing artists that lent creative talent. The plaza is the only place, outside of Disneyland and Walt Disney World, where all 75 statues were on display together.

Goodwill Industries Fashion Show

On May 28, 2006, the Reagan Building hosted the annual Goodwill Industries Fashion Show and Gala. Over 400 donors and politicians were seated in the Atrium for the runway show which showcased some of the most unique items that have been donated throughout the year. “Dialogue” Art Project Installation

On May 13, 2006, the Woodrow Wilson Plaza at the Ronald Reagan Building hosted the “Dialogue” project art installation.“Dialogue” featured ten freestanding screens covered with inspirational quotes from people throughout history. This art installation intercepted people on their normal routine in hopes of inspiring viewers to reflect on current events.

Swearing in Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff

On March 3, 2005, President George W. Bush took the stage in the Atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building with Michael Chertoff and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to swear in Chertoff as Secretary of Homeland Security. Chertoff co-authored the PATRIOT Act that was signed into law by President Bush in October 2001.

Declaring Victory for George W. Bush

On November 3, 2004, President Bush took the stage in the Atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building after declaring victory over John Kerry. Mr. Bush became the first Republican president to win re-election since Ronald Reagan in 1984. Laura Bush and there two daughters stood by his side as he thanked the campaign team that helped them declare victory.

National Day of Mourning for Ronald Reagan

On June 11, 2004, President George W. Bush declared a national day of mourning for former President Ronald Reagan. On June 5, 2004, Ronald Reagan passed away in Los Angeles, CA from pneumonia that was brought on by Alzheimer’s.  A funeral service was held at the Washington National Cathedral on June 11.

Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003

President Bush signs into law the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 in the Amphitheater at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. A heavily debated bill that was passed by Congress (64 to 34 Senate vote) that bans a specific procedure that was used to terminate pregnancies in the second and third trimester.

10 Year Anniversary of NAFTA

On December 9, 2002, more than 800 people gathered in the Atrium of the Reagan Building for a two-day conference assessing the impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement. During this conference they discussed the lessons the agreement may hold when deepening North American ties and future trade agreements.
